I’m running about a week behind on this, but I always try and do a little research before hastily posting about the next big thing. I did link to INDIE MAXIMUM EXPOSURE LIST (A GUIDE FOR THE REST OF US) as a reference on my last post regarding Direct To Fan Marketing, then realized it really does deserve a post all it’s own. No secret I am a die hard Ariel Hyatt fan, but I am equally impressed with the ‘Dream Team’ she has brought together as contributors to this MUST READ document.

Upon viewing Billboard’s 2009 Maximum Exposure List, full of nearly impossible long shots for the majority of independent musicians, Ariel began work on a guide for the rest of us. The first step was creating her own panel of indie experts to help come up with a response to the Maximum Exposure List. I have decided to include direct links to a few of those I follow or interact with on a regular basis and encourage you to check them out.   A complete list can be found HERE.

  • Bob Baker is an author, musician, and workshop leader who is dedicated to helping creative people of all kinds get exposure, connect with fans, and increase their incomes through their artistic passions.  I was fortunate enough to be one of the contributing authors to his original ‘Myspace Music Marketing & Promotion‘ ebook.
  • Jed Carlson & Lou Plaia of ReverbNation, a company that provides Music 2.0 marketing technology to Artists, Labels, Managers, and Venues.  I am a strong advocate of Reverbnation and recommend that site as a MUST for all musicians.
  • Ariel Hyatt is the founder of Ariel Publicity & Cyber PR a New York based digital firm that connects artists, authors and filmmakers to blogs, podcasts, Internet radio stations and social media sites.  She was kind enough to give me permission to reprint her blog articles on Wicked D’s Network.
  • Derek Sivers is best known as the founder of CD Baby, which he sold to focus on his new ventures to benefit musicians.  I consider Derek a mentor and always enjoy corresponding with him.

The document itself touches upon 7 critical categories which I am now dubbing the independent artist’s Bible For Survival!

  1. Mindset/ Who You are Being
  2. Fostering Relationships
  3. Recording & Releasing Material
  4. Touring / Live Performance
  5. Social Media / Internet Strategy
  6. Online Resources (Where to Submit)
  7. Making Money

Ariel also encourages interaction by stating “I implore you to please contribute your own points. I would very much love for this to be an ongoing conversation for all of us.”  I can only imagine the positive feedback she and her contributors have received.  I would like to publicly thank them all.  Job well done!
