My lovely friend, Olga Zelenova, turned me onto a Facebook discussion published by Baltimore Rockers, SKITZO CALYPSO. Apparently, the band has decided to go completely digital with their new music marketing plan. I think it’s a pretty kick ass idea. Of course, It was in my nature to send them a suggestion or two. ;)

The post proudly announces:
“We will be launching the new Skitzo Calypso flash drive on February 27th, 2010.”

The band’s intention is to phase out physical CD sales in favor of a flash drive, preloaded with music and bonus content. It also entitles fans to discounts on previously released and future material.

A laptop will be available at live shows for fans wishing to bring their own flash drive. They will be charged a traditional fee for the music, which includes original album artwork. However, discounts will not apply to those providing their own device.

Skitzo Calypso developed their new marketing plan by observing the buying habits of their fans. The band professes to have learned a little something about fans, marketing, and distribution. They have decided more finances will go into producing music, rather than making copies of it.

The Skitzo Calypso flash drive will be available and sold at all of the band’s shows, as well as online.

  1. Thanks for the recognition, sir! It just seemed like the next logical step! Hopefully, I’ll have the “bonus content” interface finished by then! It’s a monumental task, to say the least! Either way, I do sincerely feel it is the future of music distribution!

And apparently, according to Brad, we are chefs of the Chinese food variety.. haha!

Cheers brotha! I think it’s the next logical step for us – the angle for marketing/colors/design/layout/etc. will be focused on the presentation of what’s preloaded on the drive – we’re hoping to have pictures/discography/biographies/etc. It’s all a matter of writing the interface, which our guitarist is working on.

But, there are a ton of ideas in the wok!
