Way back in part 1: Niche Marketing For Musicians, we looked at defining your niche.  Then, Part 2: Does Your Music Offer A Solution?, taught us that people don’t buy products, they buy solutions. Here in part 3 of the series, we will look at driving traffic to your website.

The same principle applies to online business as it does in the real world. If consumers don’t visit, you don’t profit! So how do you drive traffic to your website?

I place website visitors in 2 categories:

  1. Buyers
  2. Potential Buyers

Technically, there is a 3rd category: those whom are in & out once they discover they are in the wrong place.  But, why worry about that?

Those in category 1 arrive at your website knowing exactly what they want and purchase right away.  Unfortunately, this is normally a very small percentage of visitors.  Those in category 2, a much larger percentage, have come to look around.  They will need a little more time and persuasion before making a decision.

So how do you increase the percentage of receiving a category 1 visitor?

Generate Targeted Traffic!

Before you get all excited, let me point out that no matter how well targeted, the majority of your traffic will be in category 2.

What is targeted traffic?
Basically, A visitor that can be identified as part of your target market. In the case of our Black Metal example, it would be a fan of Black Metal. There are other examples, of course, depending on your defined niche.

How do you drive targeted traffic to a website?
Locate the sources of potential market-specific traffic. Then, identify and advertise to the specific segment of that market most interested in your offer.  Proper market research will reveal who to target and where to find them.  Search engines and social networking make this market research very easy.
