A couple things that immediately rubbed me the wrong way was
the templates available for download in the “Customize Your Band Profile” section all have top banner/video layouts.
a link in the “Make The Most Out Of Myspace” section called ‘Use Myspace As Your Official Website’.
Why would Myspace be your official website? That just blows my mind. As far as the templates, I believe the music player should be the first thing that visitors see. Fans come to your profile for your music, first and foremost!
Everything else on the support page appears to be pretty generic stuff. But don’t take my word for it, check it out!
Now this is what I’m talking about! I don’t know how many times I’ve tried to explain the importance of a non-flash, regularly updated, easy to navigate website with a basic home page containing a very short bio, A MUSIC PLAYER, updates/gigs, and a pitch to join the mailing list.
Chris Vinson, founder of BandZoogle, lays out 6 basic rules in his guest post on Hypebot which covers
This is a concept I have started with the bands I am coaching. Getting your fans involved in everything you do is always a great idea! After visiting many artist websites, we found 4-5 of these easy to rectify issues on at least 90% of pages we visited…
Sounds a bit cliché, huh? The following video has restored my faith in the fans of unsigned/underground music. As publicist for HEMOPTYSIS, I saw this as a powerful marketing tool, developed by a true metal fan. Bands can’t buy this kind of publicity! My hat goes off to the man known as ‘guitarzero’.
