It took all of about 5 seconds into the song Power, Corruption, and Lies off END OF MAN’S self titled debut for a smile to creep across my face. I’ve always had a soft spot for the Bay Area Thrash sound, I guess. Hailing from Marikina City, Philippines, End of Man have 80s Thrash down to a science, yet flawlessly incorporate Heavy Metal (almost NWOBHM at times), Hardcore & Death Metal.

END OF MAN MYSPACE

Just thought I would throw out some cool news on the Metal Music Promotions supported, Desert Core band, BACK FROM ASHES!

Arizona’s Back From Ashes, known for their potent, unique mix of progressive, metal and rock, have reached another career milestone. They now hold the distinction of being the only artist to receive two separate honors at this year’s Los Angeles/Phoenix Music Awards.

hahaha Who doesn’t remember poor old Charlie Brown’s repeated phrase “I got a rock”? I wonder if his Halloween would have been more enjoyable had he received a Rock CD, instead? Crazy? Maybe, but I’ve got to hand it to my friend, Dave Gutierrez. He has an uncanny knack for finding off the wall (innovative?) ways to get his music into the hands of potential fans.

I’m running about a week behind on this, but I always try and do a little research before hastily posting about the next big thing. I did link to INDIE MAXIMUM EXPOSURE LIST (A GUIDE FOR THE REST OF US) as a reference on my last post regarding Direct To Fan Marketing, then realized it really does deserve a post all it’s own. No secret I am a die hard Ariel Hyatt fan, but I am equally impressed with the ‘Dream Team’ she has brought together as contributors to this MUST READ document.

In my opinion, the ‘Direct to Fan’ business model may very well represent the future of the music industry.  I believe this, despite those whom argue it only works for bands with past major label backing and an established fan base, such as NIN or Radiohead.  My response?  Independent artists don’t need millions of fans to be financially successful.  Furthermore, bypassing the label (and all middlemen involved) nets the artist a much higher personal profit per unit sold.

Wow! It really makes you feel all warm & fuzzy inside when an artist you are working with meets or exceeds their goals. Masaki Murashita, guitarist/vocalist of Hemoptysis, did just that when he wrapped up an endorsement deal with Jackson Guitars today. I am extremely proud of Masaki and Hemoptysis for all of their accomplishments thus far. Please visit the MASAKI MYSPACE to leave him some love! Don’t forget to check out the HEMOPTYSIS WEBSITE as well. Then, come back and read the Press Release.

A little over a week ago I was inspired enough by Derek Sivers’ blog, ‘Not happy with existing venues? Make a new one‘, to write of my own experiences regarding the subject. I highly recommend you read it as well. You may also want to read Part 1 of my story, ‘Pay To Play Is NOT A Necessary Evil aka Create Your Own Gig!‘.  Part 1 spoke of one particular gig that really paid off.  In part 2, I will show you how we expanded the ‘Create Your Own Gig’ principle into a successful (money making) formula.

This is both a rant and a response to Derek Sivers recent blog, Not happy with existing venues? Make a new one. In short, the blog suggests to do exactly as the title says. Make it a point to read it and don’t forget to leave him a comment as well. The following relates to my own personal experiences regarding this subject.

Well, I wasn’t kidding when I said I would have to start all over.  I know many of my regular followers may find this a bit monotonous, but I really feel a need to re-post some of my original blogs. So, why not start with the post that kicked off Wicked D’s Network in the first place … WHY MUSIC?

Wow!  Had some major problems going on, so I basically have to rebuild the site.  It was time for a change anyway.  I don’t think I was using the blog to its full potential.

I still intend to cover my usual artist development ramblings as well as passing on info from some of my music business mentors.

This will also become the home base for Rock / Metal Updates that have been flooding my outlying social networks, meaning more posts, more often!

Of course, I will need to repost a lot of the material from past blogs.
