Here’s a subject that’s certainly making its rounds within industry circles. Google’s new APP INVENTOR!  It’s free and apparently user friendly as it requires NO programming knowledge. This video is pretty basic, but I think you will see the potential. Learn more about it at http://appinventor.googlelabs.com/about. Oh yeah, there is a waiting period, so sign up now!

VIDEO IS THE NEW AUDIO by Jay Warsinske, INDIEPOWER.com

Two of the MOST IMPORTANT aspects of a breaking a NEW ARTIST is their VISUALS (music videos, EPK, graphic designs, logo) and their LIVE SHOW!  VIDEO is the new TOOL, along with a dynamic performance in creating IMPACT in a cluttered & competitive marketplace! It’s the Artist or Group’s ‘personality’ that has a chance to cause a ‘reaction’ through a good video and the live show.

Would you pay to watch a Youtube video?  Honestly, I would rather see bands offer premium “sneak peek” content through their own website via newletter or fan club subsciptions.  Check out the following from Hypebot.

YouTube is set to expand its pay to view platform, according to company executives. The new self-service platform will make it easier for filmmakers and other content creators to upload video content onto YouTube and charge for it.

A couple things that immediately rubbed me the wrong way was

  1. the templates available for download in the “Customize Your Band Profile” section all have top banner/video layouts.
  2. a link in the “Make The Most Out Of Myspace” section called ‘Use Myspace As Your Official Website’.

Why would Myspace be your official website?  That just blows my mind.  As far as the templates, I believe the music player should be the first thing that visitors see.  Fans come to your profile for your music, first and foremost!

Everything else on the support page appears to be pretty generic stuff.  But don’t take my word for it, check it out!
